Emergency Information

Toothache

First meticulously clean around the sore tooth, and then rinse your mouth with warm salt water to dislodge food between your teeth. Do not use aspirin to reduce your tooth or gum pain. If your face begins to swell, compress the area with something cold. If you must take something to relieve the pain, we recommend acetaminophen. If the pain continues for more than a day, contact Dee Family Dental set up an appointment.

Broken Tooth

First rinse your mouth with warm water. Next, place a cold compress over area of your face by the broken tooth. Also, collect broken tooth fragments and call or visit Dee Family Dental for immediate dental attention.

Knocked-Out Permanent Tooth

Recover the knocked-out tooth, holding it by the top, not the root. Briefly and gently rinse it, but do not handle it more than necessary. Then reinsert the tooth in the socket and hold it there with a sterile piece of gauze or clean cloth. If you can’t reinsert the tooth, carry it in milk or water. Time is essential, so see a dentist right away.

Excessive Bleeding After Baby Tooth Falls Out

Place a piece of sterile gauze over the bleeding area and have your child bite down on it for 15 minutes. If bleeding does not stop, see a dentist.

Cut or Bitten Tongue, Lip, or Cheek

Apply ice to any bruised area. If your tongue, lip, or check is bleeding, gently and firmly press the injury with sterile gauze or a clean cloth. If the pressure does not stop the bleeding after 15 minutes, go to an emergency room.

Cold Sores and Canker Sores

Over-the-counter medications from your local pharmacy usually provide relief. If sores continue, visit your dentist.

Injured Jaw

Tie a towel, tie, or handkerchief around your closed mouth and visit the emergency room at once.
